Es fühlt sich fremd an nach Jahren in der Fremde plötzlich (wieder) heimisch zu sein. Heidelberg verwöhnt uns mit einem tollen Sommer. Tagsüber ist es sehr heiss und schwül und die Nächte sind tropisch warm. Wir unternehmen kleine Fluchten in die Natur. Egal ob an einem See in der Nähe des Hofguts Dösterhof im Saarland, am Fuße der Burg Berwartstein im Pfälzerwald oder am Kocher in der Nähe von Schwäbisch Hall. Es gibt in der näheren Umgebung viele lohnenswerte Orte. Unser „Dicker“ hat nach vielen kleinen und größeren Problemen ein neues Herz (= Austauschmotor) erhalten. Wir hoffen das diese Investition uns für die nächsten Jahre erstmal Ruhe vor weiteren Reparaturen verschafft. Längere Reisen sind aufgrund der aktuellen Situation kaum zu machen, da sich die Covid-19 Infektionsfälle in den angrenzenden Ländern ständig verändern. Wir haben keine Lust auf Quarantäne nach der Wiedereinreise und bleiben deshalb einfach im Land.
Das Leben in Heidelberg hat sich weitgehend normalisiert allerdings ohne die zu dieser Zeit üblichen Veranstaltungen und Konzerte die garnicht oder nur online stattfinden. Die Treffen von Startups finden wenn überhaupt nur per Zoom Videokonferenz statt, was das persönliche Networking ziemlich erschwert. Es sind ungewohnte Einschränkungen die wohl noch länger anhalten werden.
Im Vergleich zu anderen Ländern geniessen wir allerdings sehr viel Freiheit. Die Einschränkung der Reisemöglichkeiten zeigt uns aber auch wie fragil diese Freiheiten sind. Freiheiten die wir bisher für selbstverständlich gehalten haben. Ich hoffe die aktuelle Krise mit Ihren wirtschaftlichen und persönlichen Folgen führt auch zu einem Umdenken in unserer Wohlstandsgesellschaft. Leider zeigt das aktuelle Verhalten einiger Touristen (z.B. die Saufparties auf Mallorca, etc.) das ein Umdenken bei ihnen noch nicht angekommen ist. Schade.
Wir planen aktuell nur von einem Tag zum andern und stellen unser Leben auf die Situation ein.

It feels strange to have a home (again) after years on the road. Heidelberg treats us with a great summer. During the day it is very hot and humid and the nights are tropically warm. We make small escapes into nature. If at a lake near the Hofgut Dösterhof in Saarland, at the foot of the castle Berwartstein in the Palatinate Forest or at the Kocher river near Schwäbisch Hall. There are many worthwhile places in the immediate vicinity. Our Defender has received a new heart (= new engine) after many small and bigger problems. We hope that this investment will give us peace of mind for the next couple of years and avoid further repairs. Longer journeys are hardly possible due to the current situation, as the Covid-19 infection cases in the neighbouring countries are constantly changing. We do not want to be quarantined after re-entry and therefore simply stay in the country.
Life in Heidelberg is almost back to normal, but without the usual events and concerts which are not taking place. Meetings of the Startups community are only held via zoom video conferencing if at all, which makes personal networking quite difficult. These are unusual restrictions that will probably continue for some time to come.
Compared to other countries we still enjoy a lot of freedom. But the restrictions on travel also show how fragile this freedom is. Freedom that we have taken for granted. I hope that the current crisis with its economic and personal consequences will also lead to a rethinking in society. Unfortunately, the current behaviour of some tourists (e.g. the drinking parties on Mallorca, etc.) shows that a rethinking has not yet reached them.
We only plan from one day to the next and adjust our lives to the situation.
